Possession (1981) (1st watch)
I love the grunge and rawness the movie portrays. The mechanics are twisted but easily engaging.
Read after watching, Caution spoilers: Movie reeks of the right type of French swag/aura. The slimy sex monster thing is so brash in comparison but the combination is seamless.
The main male actor played his role eloquently, he was very animated but it felt authentic.
I think I liked the male-female dynamic better here than even The Shining, or maybe French culture is just less cringe than American. They matched each other’s freak better too.
The main female actor plays up her innocence quite well, her stare is like a neglected puppy. Her pale figure is stunning.
District 9 (1st watch)
Was smiling throughout. I liked it better than Avatar, which has a similar concept.
Def one of the most unique storylines I’ve ever seen.
I liked the main actor’s performance, and thought it fit well with the movie. I would not have liked the movie as much if an actor who is known to be likable, (Leo dicaprio) played the role.
I also found these aliens more chill and seemingly-authentic than the blue avatar people (esp the lil one).
Inception (1st watch)
Leo’s acting was great. He fills the masculine role perfectly in this. There’s several themes I enjoyed, and even more that will require a rewatch before understanding.
Read after watching, Caution spoilers: - I was just thinking abt the night before about how it’s easy to say you’d die for someone, but you’ll never be able be withstand the right type of suffering. If you’ve read the book “1984”, you get a good picture of this, hah. This movie kinda nods towards that theme w a mention in the start of the movie, and the violent scenes projecting the message moreover, but then ultimately goes against it in the end when Saito doesn’t die.
